Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 scoop (about 30g) protein powder (neutral or vanilla-flavored whey or plant-based)
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg

Optional Seeds or Toppings

  • Sesame seeds
  • Poppy seeds
  • Everything bagel seasoning

Optional Variations

  • For sweet version: 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon honey, sliced almonds or dried fruits for topping
  • For savory twist: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, herbs (such as dried oregano or thyme), shredded cheese
  • For vegan adaptation: substitute egg with 1 flaxseed egg (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed + 3 tablespoons water), use plant-based yogurt
  • For seed-crusted bagels: mixture of chia seeds, flaxseeds, sunflower seeds for rolling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the protein powder, almond flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir until evenly mixed. Add the Greek yogurt and egg, folding gently until a thick dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add a teaspoon of water or more yogurt to achieve a smooth consistency.
  2. Shape the Bagels: Divide the dough into 3 to 4 equal portions depending on your preferred size. Roll each portion into a ball, then gently press a hole through the center to form a classic bagel shape. If the dough is sticky, dip your hands in water before shaping.
  3. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and preheat for 3-5 minutes to ensure immediate cooking and a good crust formation.
  4. Air Fry the Bagels: Place the bagels in the air fryer basket, leaving enough space so they don’t touch. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through to brown both sides evenly. The bagels should be golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the bagels from the air fryer and transfer to a wire rack. Let them cool for a few minutes to set properly while keeping the inside soft and chewy. Serve warm with your favorite garnishes or toppings.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help the dough bind smoothly without cracking or dryness.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary to ensure even cooking and proper air circulation.
  • Try different protein powders such as pea, whey, or collagen to experiment with flavors and textures.
  • Add seeds or spices immediately after shaping the bagels for better adhesion during air frying.
  • Experiment with the thickness of your bagels: thinner bagels will crisp faster, thicker ones will remain chewy inside.
