Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
  • Toasted nuts (pecans, walnuts, or almonds), for garnish
  • Freshly grated Parmesan or crumbled goat cheese, for serving
  • Red pepper flakes or smoked paprika, for added spice
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary, for herb infusion

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts: Trim the stem ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any loose or damaged outer leaves. Depending on their size, cut the sprouts in half to ensure even roasting and caramelization.
  2. Toss with Oil and Seasoning: In a large bowl, combine the halved Brussels sprouts with extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss well so each sprout is fully coated with the flavorful mixture, which helps create that irresistible roast.
  3. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the sprouts in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Ensure there’s enough space between pieces to allow for crispiness and prevent steaming.
  4. Roast the Sprouts: Place the tray in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) and roast for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring once halfway through, until the sprouts are golden brown with crispy edges.
  5. Drizzle with Balsamic Vinegar: Remove the Brussels sprouts from the oven and drizzle them evenly with balsamic vinegar. Toss gently to coat, then return the pan to the oven for another 5 minutes to allow the vinegar to reduce slightly and glaze the sprouts.
  6. Serve Warm: Transfer the Balsamic Roasted Brussels Sprouts to a serving dish and enjoy immediately while they retain their crispness and tangy sweetness.

Notes

  • Choose smaller, fresher Brussels sprouts for the best caramelization and flavor.
  • Dry Brussels sprouts thoroughly after washing to avoid steaming during roasting.
  • Do not overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure crispiness.
  • Use high-quality aged balsamic vinegar for a richer glaze and better flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter glaze.
