Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 ½ cups sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (neutral oil like canola or peanut)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced for garnish
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Wash and cut broccoli into bite-sized florets. Slice mushrooms evenly. Mince the garlic and slice green onions thinly to have all ingredients ready before cooking.
  2. Sauté Garlic and Mushrooms: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add mushroom slices and cook for about 5 minutes until they release their juices and begin to brown.
  3. Add Broccoli: Add broccoli florets to the skillet and stir well. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender but still crisp and vibrant green. Optionally, add a splash of water or broth to help steam the broccoli evenly.
  4. Season the Stir Fry: Pour in the soy sauce and drizzle the sesame oil over the vegetables. Toss everything together to coat well. If using, add crushed red pepper flakes now. Cook for another minute to blend the flavors.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Turn off the heat and sprinkle sliced green onions over the stir fry. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh texture and flavors.

Notes

  • Use high heat to sear vegetables quickly and keep them crisp.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if needed to avoid steaming.
  • Prep all vegetables ahead of time to maintain a smooth cooking flow and prevent burning garlic.
  • Add soy sauce gradually and taste to avoid oversalting.
  • For best results, use fresh broccoli and mushrooms.
  • If using frozen broccoli or mushrooms, thaw and drain excess water before cooking to prevent sogginess.
  • Customize with proteins like tofu, chicken, or shrimp, or add other veggies such as bell peppers or carrots.
  • Use tamari or coconut aminos to keep the recipe gluten-free.
  • For extra texture, garnish with toasted sesame seeds or slivered almonds.
