Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend for gluten-free version)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted (or coconut oil for dairy-free option)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cream Cheese Topping

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (use dairy-free cream cheese for dairy-free option)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brownie Base: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend), cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the melted butter with sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients gently to maintain the fudgy texture. Spread the batter evenly into a greased baking pan to form the brownie layer.
  2. Make the Cream Cheese Topping: In another bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract, then whisk until fully combined and silky. This topping offers a luscious and tangy contrast to the chocolate base.
  3. Assemble and Bake: Gently spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the brownie base. Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until the cream cheese topping is set and has a slight golden hue around the edges.
  4. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan to let the layers firm up, which makes slicing easier. For best results, refrigerate before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to ensure even mixing and smooth texture.
  • Don’t overmix the brownie batter to keep it fudgy—fold dry ingredients gently.
  • Chill bars after baking to achieve clean, neat slices.
  • Check oven temperature with a thermometer to prevent overbaking and drying out the bars.
  • Lining your pan with parchment paper makes removing and slicing easier.
