Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 2 fresh flaky croissants
  • 2 large fresh eggs
  • 2 slices or 1/4 cup shredded melting cheese (cheddar, Swiss, Gruyère, or mozzarella)
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil (for cooking and toasting)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Optional Fresh Herbs

  • Chopped chives (for garnish)
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)

Optional Variations

  • Sautéed spinach, tomatoes, or mushrooms (for veggie variation)
  • Bacon, ham, or smoked sausage (for meaty addition)
  • Sliced jalapeños, hot sauce, or pepper jack cheese (for spicy kick)
  • Plant-based cheese and tofu scramble (for dairy-free version)
  • Truffle oil or caramelized onions (for gourmet touch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Gather fresh croissants, your preferred cheese, and eggs. Slice the croissants horizontally to create a top and bottom half. Grate or slice the cheese so it melts easily inside the sandwich.
  2. Cook the Eggs: Heat butter or oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Whisk eggs lightly, season with salt and pepper, then cook gently. Stir continuously for soft scrambled eggs or cook sunny side up according to your preference.
  3. Toast the Croissants: Lightly toast the croissant halves in a skillet or oven until warm and slightly crisp on the outside, while keeping the inside soft.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich: Place the warm eggs on the bottom croissant half, immediately top with cheese so it begins to melt, then cover with the croissant top. Press gently to combine all layers.
  5. Final Melt (Optional): For extra gooeyness, place the assembled sandwich back in the pan, cover, and cook on low heat for 1–2 minutes until the cheese fully melts and flavors blend.

Notes

  • Allow eggs and croissants to come to room temperature before cooking for better texture and melting.
  • Use high-quality, freshly baked croissants to enhance flavor and flakiness.
  • Cook eggs on low heat to keep them moist and tender.
  • Avoid overfilling the sandwich to prevent sogginess and difficulty eating.
  • Preheat your pan to toast croissants quickly without drying them out.
