Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 4 large russet potatoes

Cheese

  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Oil & Seasonings

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Optional: paprika or chili powder, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fries: Wash and optionally peel the russet potatoes. Cut into even sticks for uniform cooking. Rinse in cold water to remove excess starch and pat completely dry to ensure extra crispiness.
  2. Cook the Fries: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato sticks in batches for 4-6 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, then immediately season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Add the Cheese: Spread the fries evenly on a heatproof plate or baking tray. Sprinkle shredded sharp cheddar over the fries, then place under a broiler or into a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
  4. Final Touches: Right after melting the cheese, sprinkle garlic powder and optional paprika or your preferred herbs on top. Serve hot and enjoy every crispy, cheesy bite.

Notes

  • Use starchy russet potatoes for the crispiest fries.
  • Dry potato sticks thoroughly to prevent sogginess.
  • Fry in small batches to keep oil temperature steady.
  • Shredding your own cheese helps it melt better without additives.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
