Chicken Tortellini Alfredo

Chicken Tortellini Alfredo

Chicken Tortellini Alfredo is a creamy, comforting, and easy-to-make dinner recipe combining tender cheese-filled tortellini, juicy chicken breast, and a rich Alfredo sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights or cozy family dinners, it offers a harmonious blend of flavors and textures that are family-approved and customizable.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • Cheese Tortellini – 12 ounces (pre-packaged or fresh)

Protein

  • Chicken Breast – 2 boneless, skinless breasts

Sauce

  • Heavy Cream – 1 cup
  • Parmesan Cheese – 1 cup, freshly grated
  • Butter – 3 tablespoons
  • Garlic – 2 cloves, minced

Seasoning & Oils

  • Salt – to taste
  • Black Pepper – to taste
  • Olive Oil – 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry and season them with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken breasts for about 6-7 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and let it rest before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Cook the Tortellini: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cheese tortellini and cook according to the package instructions until tender but still firm (al dente). Drain the tortellini, reserving a small amount of pasta water, and set aside.
  3. Make the Alfredo Sauce: Using the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté just until fragrant, about 1 minute. Pour in the heavy cream and simmer gently while stirring frequently to thicken the sauce.
  4. Add Cheese and Combine: Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the freshly grated Parmesan cheese until it melts smoothly into the sauce. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to loosen it. Return the sliced chicken to the skillet, add the cooked tortellini, and toss gently to coat everything evenly with the sauce.
  5. Final Seasoning and Serve: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Serve immediately while piping hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese or fresh parsley for color and added flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh Parmesan cheese for the best melting quality and flavor.
  • Do not overcook the tortellini to avoid mushy texture after combining with sauce.
  • Reserve pasta water to adjust the sauce consistency and improve flavor binding.
  • Pound chicken to an even thickness to ensure it cooks quickly and uniformly without drying out.
  • Simmer Alfredo sauce on low heat to prevent curdling or separating.
