Creamy Chicken Ravioli

Creamy Chicken Ravioli is a comforting and rich dish featuring tender chicken-stuffed ravioli enveloped in a luscious, velvety cream sauce. Perfect for cozy weeknights or entertaining guests, this quick and easy recipe combines simple ingredients to deliver indulgent flavors and satisfying textures that bring warmth and delight to any dinner table.

Ingredients

Chicken Filling

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cooked and shredded
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (about 1/4 cup)
  • Minced garlic (2 cloves)
  • Fresh herbs (such as basil, thyme, or parsley), finely chopped (2 tablespoons)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Pasta

  • Ravioli pasta (fresh or store-bought, about 12 ounces)

Cream Sauce

  • Butter (2 tablespoons)
  • Finely chopped onions (1 small)
  • Minced garlic (2 cloves)
  • Heavy cream (1 cup)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (1/2 cup)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh herbs (basil, parsley, or thyme), chopped
  • Extra grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: drizzle of high-quality olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Filling: Cook the chicken until tender and fully cooked through. Let it cool, then shred or finely chop it. Mix the chicken with grated Parmesan, minced garlic, fresh herbs, salt, and pepper to infuse flavor throughout the filling.
  2. Cook the Ravioli: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently add the ravioli and cook according to package instructions (about 3 to 5 minutes) until they float to the surface. Drain carefully, reserving some pasta water for the sauce.
  3. Make the Cream Sauce: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté finely chopped onions and garlic until translucent and fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream, then simmer gently while stirring in Parmesan cheese until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Combine Ravioli and Sauce: Add the cooked ravioli into the cream sauce, tossing gently to coat each piece evenly. If the sauce is too thick, use reserved pasta water to loosen it to the perfect consistency.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle fresh herbs on top and finish with an extra grating of Parmesan cheese. Optionally, drizzle with olive oil. Serve immediately to enjoy the silky, warm flavors at their best.

Notes

  • Fresh over Frozen: Using fresh ravioli and chicken enhances texture and flavor significantly.
  • Reserve Pasta Water: Keep some pasta water to adjust sauce consistency without diluting flavor.
  • Low and Slow: Simmer the cream sauce gently to avoid curdling and achieve a smooth texture.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Cook ravioli in batches if needed to prevent breaking or sticking.
  • Fresh Herbs Last: Add herbs at the end to preserve their bright aroma and color.
