Crispy Cinnamon Sugar Air Fryer Banana Chips

Crispy Cinnamon Sugar Air Fryer Banana Chips

Crispy Cinnamon Sugar Air Fryer Banana Chips are a sweet and crunchy snack made from thinly sliced firm bananas coated with a warm cinnamon sugar mix and air fried to perfection. This healthy treat requires minimal ingredients, takes under 30 minutes to prepare, and offers a delightful balance of sweetness and spice without excess oil or preservatives.

Ingredients

Scale

Banana Chips

  • 3 firm, slightly underripe bananas
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted (or cooking spray)

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or brown sugar as variation)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them thinly into even rounds about 1/8-inch thick using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife to ensure consistent thickness for even crispiness.
  2. Mix the Cinnamon Sugar Coating: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Adjust the amount to suit your preferred level of sweetness and spice.
  3. Toss Bananas with Lemon and Oil: Lightly sprinkle the banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning, then gently toss them in melted coconut oil or spray with cooking spray to help the sugar stick and chips crisp up in the air fryer.
  4. Coat the Banana Slices: Toss the oiled banana slices thoroughly in the cinnamon sugar mixture ensuring every slice is evenly coated with the warm cinnamon sugar flavor.
  5. Air Fry to Perfection: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the banana slices in a single layer in the basket without overlapping; cook in batches if needed. Air fry for 12 to 15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy. Watch closely near the end to prevent burning.
  6. Cool and Enjoy: Remove the banana chips from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack. As they cool, they will further crisp up. Once cooled, serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Notes

  • Even Slices Matter: Slice bananas evenly (about 1/8-inch thick) for consistent crispiness.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: Arrange slices in a single layer to allow air circulation.
  • Use Slightly Underripe Bananas: These hold shape better and result in crunchier chips.
  • Adjust Cooking Time: Depending on your air fryer model and slice thickness, cooking times may vary—monitor closely.
  • Store in an Airtight Container: Keep cooled chips dry and sealed to maintain crunch.
  • Reheat Tips: Refresh crunch by air frying at 300°F (150°C) for 3–5 minutes after storage or freezing.
