Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 24 Oreo cookies (classic chocolate sandwich cookies), crushed finely
  • 8 oz (1 package) cream cheese, softened

Chocolate Coating

  • 12 oz chocolate chips or melting wafers (milk, dark, or white chocolate as preferred)

Optional Decorations

  • Sprinkles, crushed Oreos, mini chocolate chips, or other festive decorations

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor or a zip-top bag and crush them until they become fine crumbs, with no large pieces remaining. This creates the perfect texture for your truffle base.
  2. Mix in the Cream Cheese: Combine the crushed Oreos with softened cream cheese in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is uniform and sticky enough to form into balls. The cream cheese adds richness and helps bind the crumbs.
  3. Shape into Balls: Using your hands or a small cookie scoop, roll the mixture into bite-sized balls. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Melt the Chocolate: Gently melt your chocolate chips or melting wafers using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently to avoid burning and to achieve a smooth consistency.
  5. Coat the Truffles: Dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, using a fork to fully cover each one. Place them back on the parchment paper. Decorate immediately if desired while the coating is still wet.
  6. Chill and Set: Allow the coated truffles to cool completely in the refrigerator, about 20-30 minutes, until the chocolate shell hardens perfectly.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to ensure smooth blending without lumps.
  • Freeze truffle balls before dipping to help chocolate coat evenly and prevent melting.
  • If needed, thin melted chocolate by adding a teaspoon of vegetable oil to improve coating texture and shine.
  • Work quickly when dipping since chocolate sets fast; prepare your workspace ahead.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep fresh and prevent odor absorption.
