Greek Salad

Greek Salad is a vibrant and refreshing Mediterranean classic that combines crisp cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, briny Kalamata olives, tangy feta cheese, and red onions, all dressed with extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice or red wine vinegar, and dried oregano. This nutritious, light, and easy-to-make salad is perfect for hot summer days, offering a flavorful and healthy way to stay cool and nourished.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 2 medium fresh cucumbers, diced
  • 3 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Kalamata olives, pitted

Cheese

  • 200g feta cheese, crumbled

Dressing

  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Wash all fresh produce thoroughly. Dice the cucumbers and tomatoes into bite-sized pieces. Thinly slice the red onion evenly to ensure balance in every bite.
  2. Combine the Ingredients: In a large salad bowl, gently toss the diced cucumbers, tomatoes, sliced red onions, and Kalamata olives together to evenly distribute flavors.
  3. Add the Feta and Seasonings: Crumble the feta cheese evenly over the salad. Sprinkle with dried oregano, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper to enhance and balance the flavors.
  4. Dress the Salad: Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice or red wine vinegar on top. Toss gently to coat all ingredients without breaking the delicate feta.
  5. Serve Immediately or Chill: Greek Salad is best enjoyed fresh for optimal texture and flavor, but chilling it briefly helps the flavors blend beautifully for a more refreshing experience.

Notes

  • Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor in the dressing.
  • Toss salad gently to keep feta cheese intact and maintain crispness.
  • Add salt sparingly as feta cheese and olives are already salty.
  • Soak sliced onions briefly in cold water to reduce sharpness and add crunch if desired.
  • Serve the salad chilled but not ice cold to allow flavors to shine.
