Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry or crescent dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Extra grated Parmesan, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, grated Parmesan, minced parsley, chopped chives, garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is creamy and herbs are evenly distributed.
  2. Prepare Your Pastry: Roll out puff pastry or crescent dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into small squares about 2 to 3 inches each, ideal for bite-sized portions.
  3. Assemble the Bites: Spoon a small dollop of the herb cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square. Gather the corners of each square up around the filling and pinch the edges firmly to seal, forming little pouches or triangles.
  4. Bake to Golden Perfection: Place the sealed bites on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops lightly with beaten egg for shine and sprinkle with extra Parmesan if desired. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  5. Cool and Serve: Let the Herb Cheese Bites cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the filling to set slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature for optimal flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese for smooth blending and no lumps.
  • Finely chop herbs to ensure flavor is evenly spread in every bite.
  • Do not overfill pastry pockets to prevent bursting during baking.
  • Egg wash promotes a golden, glossy, and visually appealing crust.
  • Serve with dipping sauces like creamy ranch or garlic aioli to complement the flavors.
