Mashed Potatoes (Slow Cooker)

Mashed Potatoes (Slow Cooker)

Creamy, fluffy mashed potatoes made effortlessly in a slow cooker, delivering a velvety texture and rich flavor perfect for any meal or occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Russet or Yukon Gold Potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 to 2 inch chunks
  • 1/2 cup Butter, melted
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups Milk or Cream (adjust for desired consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 to 3 cloves Garlic, minced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks, about 1 to 2 inches each. This ensures they cook uniformly and mash smoothly.
  2. Add Ingredients to Slow Cooker: Place the potato chunks into your slow cooker. Add minced garlic if using, then pour melted butter and enough milk or cream to cover at least half the potatoes. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the top.
  3. Cook on Low: Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Avoid opening the lid too often to maintain even heat and moisture.
  4. Mash and Mix: Using a potato masher or hand mixer, mash the potatoes directly in the slow cooker until creamy and smooth. Adjust the milk and butter quantity now to reach your desired consistency, and taste to add more seasoning if needed.
  5. Keep Warm Until Ready to Serve: After mashing, switch the slow cooker to the warm setting to hold the perfect serving temperature without drying the mashed potatoes out.

Notes

  • Cut potatoes evenly for uniform cooking and best texture.
  • Mash gently to avoid gluey or gummy texture—aim for light and fluffy.
  • Use room temperature dairy to help everything blend smoothly.
  • Prefer a ceramic or stoneware slow cooker insert for even heat distribution.
  • Add milk or cream gradually to prevent overly loose mashed potatoes.
