Ingredients

Scale

Primary Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Gently wipe the mushrooms clean with a damp cloth or paper towel. Avoid soaking them in water to prevent sogginess. Trim any tough stems if needed, and slice larger mushrooms in half for even cooking.
  2. Melt the Butter and Sauté Garlic: Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the unsalted butter. Add freshly minced garlic and stir frequently for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned, to keep the garlic flavor bright and pleasant.
  3. Cook the Mushrooms: Add the mushrooms to the skillet in a single layer as much as possible. Let them cook undisturbed for a few minutes until they start to brown on one side, then stir occasionally until all sides have a golden, caramelized color.
  4. Season and Finish: Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper while cooking. Once mushrooms are tender and flavorful, remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Optionally, squeeze a bit of lemon juice over the top before serving to brighten the flavors.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for even melting and better flavor absorption.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan; cook mushrooms in batches if necessary to ensure proper browning.
  • Use fresh minced garlic rather than powders or pre-minced for a vibrant garlic flavor.
  • Cook over medium-high heat to achieve that signature steakhouse sear.
  • Add fresh herbs at the end to preserve their bright flavor and vibrant color.
