Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni or small shell pasta

Protein

  • 1 can (5-6 oz) quality canned tuna packed in water, drained thoroughly

Fresh Vegetables

  • 1/2 cup celery, diced
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, diced

Dressing and Flavorings

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt for a tangier twist)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Herbs

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or dill, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Boil salted water and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain well and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process and cool it for the salad.
  2. Prepare the Veggies: While the pasta cooks, dice celery, red bell peppers, and red onion into bite-sized pieces to maintain crunch and color contrast.
  3. Mix the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  4. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, gently mix the cooled pasta, drained tuna, chopped vegetables, and fresh herbs. Pour the dressing over everything and toss until evenly coated.
  5. Chill Before Serving: Cover and refrigerate the salad for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld beautifully before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the pasta to keep the salad from becoming mushy.
  • Drain tuna thoroughly to avoid a soggy salad.
  • Chilling the salad enhances flavors and improves texture.
  • Use fresh herbs like parsley or dill to brighten the taste.
  • Adjust dressing consistency by adding lemon juice or olive oil if needed.
