Ingredients

Scale

Bread & Custard Mixture

  • 4 thick slices of sturdy bread (such as brioche or Texas toast)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Coating & Cooking

  • 1 cup crunchy nut cereal or 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, or preferred nuts)
  • Butter or cooking spray, for greasing the air fryer basket

Serving

  • Maple syrup or honey, for drizzling
  • Optional garnishes: fresh berries, sliced bananas, powdered sugar, chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Custard Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or cream, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined. This custard mixture is the flavorful soak for the bread.
  2. Coat the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, soaking it for a few seconds on each side to absorb moisture without becoming soggy. Press both sides firmly into the crunchy nut cereal or chopped nuts to achieve an even, textured coating.
  3. Preheat and Prepare the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease the air fryer basket with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking and help create a golden nut crust.
  4. Cook the French Toast: Place the coated bread slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping gently halfway through with a spatula, until the coating is crisp and golden brown and the inside is fully cooked.
  5. Serve Warm: Remove the French toast from the air fryer and serve immediately. Drizzle with maple syrup or honey and add any desired garnishes like fresh berries, bananas, or powdered sugar for an extra special touch.

Notes

  • Use day-old or slightly stale bread for best absorption and crispness.
  • Don’t over-soak the bread in custard to avoid sogginess.
  • Press the nut coating firmly onto bread for a durable crust.
  • Ensure the air fryer is fully preheated to achieve optimal crispiness.
  • Flip gently during cooking to maintain the coating intact.
