Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 12 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 23 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 24 tablespoons water or reserved chickpea liquid (aquafaba), as needed

Optional Variations and Garnishes

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes for spicy curry hummus
  • Roasted red peppers or carrots, blended in for roasted vegetable curry hummus
  • Fresh herbs like cilantro, mint, or parsley for herbed curry hummus
  • Dairy-free yogurt for vegan yogurt curry hummus
  • Toasted cashews or almonds for nutty curry hummus
  • Toasted cumin or paprika for garnish
  • Fresh chopped cilantro or parsley for garnish
  • Toasted pine nuts or sesame seeds for garnish
  • Drizzle of good-quality olive oil for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas thoroughly to ensure smooth blending and to avoid any canned taste. Gather your curry powder, garlic cloves, fresh lemon juice, tahini, olive oil, salt, and pepper to have everything ready.
  2. Blend the Base: In a food processor or high-speed blender, combine the chickpeas, tahini, fresh lemon juice, garlic, and a generous spoonful of curry powder. Pulse the mixture until it begins to smooth out.
  3. Adjust Texture and Flavor: Slowly add olive oil and water (or reserved chickpea liquid) while blending until you reach your desired creamy consistency. Taste the hummus and season with salt, pepper, and additional curry powder if a bolder flavor is preferred.
  4. Final Touches: Blend once more, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure even flavor and a silky texture. Transfer to a serving bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs, toasted spices, or nuts as desired.

Notes

  • Reserve the liquid (aquafaba) from the chickpea can to thin the hummus naturally and add creaminess.
  • Use fresh lemon juice and garlic for the brightest and most authentic flavors.
  • Toast the curry powder briefly in a dry pan before blending to intensify its aroma and flavor.
  • Blend long enough to achieve a silky texture, scraping down the bowl sides occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, lemon juice, or extra curry powder to suit your preferences.
